The throttle valve in the valve body sets shift timing and the line pressure that clamps the clutches and band. In the factory Dodge valve body, that valve tends to stick or wear its bore, which leads to poor shifts.
ATS fixes this with a hydro-balanced valve running in a hardened sleeve, similar to a sleeve in an engine block. The sleeve keeps the bore from wearing, and the new valve shape lets ATS raise line pressure without harsh, banging shifts.
The Racing version adds a progressive line-pressure rise and allows lock-up in 1st and 2nd gear. It is set up to work with 3000 RPM governor springs.
Owners of a 2003-early 2004 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 5.9L Cummins with a 48RE who want firm, reliable shifts for performance use.
