ProTect68 gives a stock 68RFE 150 percent of its original torque holding force. An electronic controller raises clutch apply pressure as high as 250 psi to stop slipping, adjusting it on the fly from boost and engine load.
BD's custom bonded-gasket separator plate and gaskets cut valve body cross leaks well below stock, even at the much higher line pressure, and a heavy-duty accumulator plate prevents accumulator blow-out. The transmission stays in the truck, the pump isn't modified, and no tuning or full relearn is needed. BD says a fresh stock unit can then handle about 450 hp; above that it recommends a complete BD 68RFE.
