The Intermediate shaft in your Dodge Cummins is the first hard part to bring power into your transmission and deliver that power to the wheels. With no way to dampen the power other than the torque converter the intermediate shaft has to be able to handle large amount of power without suffering a breakage. The key to success is not to make the shaft out of "stronger" metal necessarily, but give it the ability to absorb more torsional load. The way ATS Diesel does this is by using billet shafts, billet shafts have the ability to rotate further without breaking. This is going to give the transmission more "give" and allow it to transmit more torque and more load without breaking.
